The One That Got Away
Book One of the Jay Chaparral Saga. When the Chaparrals decide to relocate to the small town of Waverly, Indiana, they inadvertently sign their son up for a trial-by-fire. Coming of age at the dawn of the new millennium, Jay Chaparral must also come to terms with the strange sights and sounds that occur in Waverly. These odd occurrences seem to have nothing to do with the end-of-the-world prophecies hanging in the air at the time. Are the experiences like rocks, thrown at random, into a solitary pond? Or are they stepping stones across Waverly’s stream, leading Jay toward something greater? The phenomena are sometimes substance-induced, but just as often they come entirely unsolicited. When Jay and his accomplices decide to test Waverly, Jay begins to discover a sinister presence at work in the town. Waverly has a magnetic pull that few escape, physically or mentally, but Jay was the one that got away. Here, for the first time, Jay shares his tales from the midwestern front.

The One That Went Away
Book Two of the Jay Chaparral Saga. After his car is wrecked on the way home from a party, Jay Chaparral's parents turn to a new form of treatment - the Behavior Modification Program - to save their "at risk" son. Crooked Timber Creek Academy (CTCA) is situated among the stunning mountain views of northwest Montana. The school promises to give students seclusion, structure, and skills. “The Program,” as it’s called, boasts “life-changing” methods of behavior modification and strategies for success. But some wonder if the Program is really just a multi-million dollar scheme to fleece the scared parents of troubled youth. With court order in hand, the Chaparrals fly out and deliver Jay to CTCA, setting him on a path that will open his eyes and forever alter his fate.

Leaning Left
Leaning Left follows Dr. Dunehawk, a retired Wisconsin professor forced out under rising right-wing pressures, as he recounts the intertwined journeys of three former students—Khloe, Patrick, and Walter—who are drawn from their Midwestern roots into global struggles for justice. What begins as a series of road trips and artistic pursuits expands into a transformative experience in Oaxaca, Mexico, where they befriend Pepé Revueltas, nephew of infamous left-wing author José Revueltas. Their encounters with history, art, and political protest put them at odds with international corporate power and align them with a peoples resistance Movement. Through their stories, the novel examines the social, historical, and spiritual forces that shape identity on the left side of the political spectrum amid an era of intensifying right-wing authoritarianism.
